Mine is bigger than yours. If size matters, Fidel is clearly the winner. More proof that JFK thinks only of himself: Just before he slapped a trade embargo on Cuba, he stashed more than 1,000 prized Cuban cigars, leaving everybody else to smoke whatever. Of course, that’s what jerks do.

John F. Kennedy and Fidel Castro were two of the most charismatic figures of the twentieth century. They both came to power in the early 1960s as mortal enemies.  Castro was a proud communist, Kennedy an unabashed capitalist.  In some ways, the two men were as different as the political systems they inhabited, yet in other ways, they were so much alike they could have been brothers.

Castro and Krushshev and JFK and Baruch

Fidel Castro allies himself with communism and goes to visit Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev in 1961 while JFK is talking business with financier Bernard Baruch.

Both JFK and Fidel came from rich, powerful Catholic families with fathers who were self-made millionaires. Both of their fathers were blatant womanizers who were so brazen that they took their lovers wherever they desired them, including in their own homes while their wives and children were in the next room. Both sons eagerly followed in their fathers’ footsteps.

One generation of jerks begat another.

Like their fathers, JFK and Fidel treated women like sex objects. To them, women were for sexual pleasure, nothing more. They forced themselves on powerless women.

JFK and Mimi Alford

Rape! White House intern Mimi Alford loses her virginity to JFK in 1962. She is 19 at the time and too intimidated to say no to the most powerful man in the world.

JFK raped White House intern Mimi Alford in 1962 when she was just 19 and still a virgin (21 was the age of consent at the time), on her fourth day on the job. JFK also raped 16-year-old virgin Pilar Rivera in a Havana brothel in 1956 while on a sex junket with pal and fellow pervert Grant Stockdale. The event was witnessed through a two-way mirror by Miami mafioso Santo Trafficante, Jr., and several other mobsters engaged in a poker game. Pilar swore she would kill Kennedy in revenge. She made good on her threat seven years later in Dallas.

Fidel Casttro and Marita Lorenz

19-year-old Marita Lorenz is intimidated when “el Jefe Maximo” Fidel Castro and six of his armed soldiers board her cruise ship in 1959. He has his way with her in one of the empty cabins.

Fidel raped 19-year-old Marita Lorenz in February, 1959, shortly after he boarded the ocean liner MS Berlin while it was anchored in Havana Harbor. Marita, a naturalized American citizen from Germany, was traveling on the Berlin with her father, the ship’s captain. Castro was the newly self-appointed Prime Minister of Cuba, el Jefe Maximo.

Marita gets pregnant. She wants the baby, but Castro doesn’t.  One night while Marita is in Havana, Castro has her drugged and taken away for an abortion. Marita later tries to kill Castro as part of a CIA plot but cannot bring herself to carry out the assassination.

white people at JFK inaugural ball

JFK’s inaugural ball was a lily-white affair. No “coloreds” allowed, including Sammy Davis, Jr., who had recently married white actress Mae Britt.

Both JFK and Fidel were lying hypocrites. Each claimed to be a champion of the people, but they both had nothing but disdain for the impoverished. JFK actually believed that inequality was part of the “natural selection process.” He once told a friend, “Poor people’s pain isn’t the same as ours.” JFK also was portrayed as a strong civil rights advocate, yet he wouldn’t allow black singer Sammy Davis, Jr., to perform at the inaugural ball with other “rat pack” members because Davis married a white woman, Swedish actress Mae Britt. Davis, who had been a lifelong Democrat, was so stung by the racist snub he switched parties and became a Nixon supporter.

Sammy Davis Jr. and Mae Britt and Richard Nixon

The Kennedys won’t allow Sammy Davis, Jr., to perform at the inaugural ball because he married Mae Britt, so he leaves the Democratic party and becomes a Nixon supporter in the 1968 election.

Castro was even worse. He treated the poor workers on his father’s plantation more cruelly than his father. According to his sister, Juanita, Fidel criticized his father for being too generous to his workers, even though they were barely able to survive on the pay they received.

After Castro became Prime Minister of Cuba, he lived like royalty while everyone else in Cuba lived like peasants. Castro had his own private island where only he, his immediate family and his servants were allowed to be. He enjoyed a luxury suite at the Havana Libre Hotel, a fleet of yachts and sports fishing boats and two private jets. While Cuba was falling into decay, Castro was living like a Kennedy.

Fidel Castro and Che Guevara deep-sea fishing

Fidel fishes while Cuba burns. With his fleet of luxury boats, Fidel is more like a Kennedy than a Castro.

The two men loathed each other, and each wanted the other dead. JFK sent dozens of assassins who tried everything from sniper attacks to poison milkshakes to exploding cigars, but Fidel dodged every bullet. JFK hired the Mafia, but even they couldn’t kill Castro. He boasted, “No one can kill me. No one will ever kill me.”

Angry and frustrated, JFK and his brother Bobby launched a covert program, called “Operation Mongoose,” to kill Castro at all costs. It didn’t bother the Kennedys that they killed hundreds of innocent people in the process. They were just Cubans, so who cared. Apparently Castro cared. He warned of repercussions for the attacks. During a reception at the Brazilian Embassy in Havana on September 7, 1963, Castro told AP correspondent Daniel Harker, “Let Kennedy and his brother Robert take care of themselves, since they too can be the victims of an attempt which will cause their death.”

Fidel Castro and JFK assassination headline

Fidel is elated to learn his assassin got JFK before JFK got him. Next up:  RFK.

Castro didn’t miss. His secret assassin, Pilar, made good on her vow of revenge. When Castro gets news of Kennedy’s death, he goes out on the balcony of his hotel suite, looks north to America and gives a defiant “up yours” with the middle finger of both hands as he puffs gleefully on his Cohiba cigar. That’s what jerks do.
